Frequently Asked Questions about the GPA Calculator

What scale does this GPA calculator use?
The US 4.0 scale, the most common in American high schools and colleges. A or A+ = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0.
How is GPA calculated?
Multiply each course's grade points by its credit hours, sum those products, then divide by the total credit hours. The result is your weighted GPA.
What is a good GPA?
Above 3.5 is generally considered strong for graduate school admissions. 3.0 is the typical minimum for many scholarships and programs. Above 3.0 is solid, above 3.7 is excellent.
What if my school uses a 5.0 or 100-point scale?
This calculator uses the standard unweighted 4.0 scale. For weighted GPAs (where AP/IB courses get bonus points), add 1.0 to those course grade points before entering.
Should I include pass/fail courses?
No. Pass/fail courses do not count toward GPA at most institutions. Only include letter-graded courses.
Does GPA include withdrawn or audited classes?
No. Withdrawn (W) and audited classes do not affect GPA. Only completed courses with letter grades count.
