How does this grade calculator work?
Enter each assignment's score, max points, and weight. The calculator turns each into a percentage, weights them, and returns your overall percent, letter grade, and 4.0 GPA equivalent.
What is the difference between weighted and unweighted grades?
Unweighted treats every assignment equally. Weighted multiplies each assignment by its share of the course (homework 20%, midterm 30%, final 50%). This calculator uses the weighted method.
How are letter grades assigned on the US scale?
A is 93% and up, A- is 90%, B+ is 87%, B is 83%, C is 73%, D is 60%, and below 60% is an F. The exact cutoffs can vary slightly by school.
What is curve grading and how does it affect my result?
Curved grading adjusts raw scores so a target share of students hits each letter grade. If your class is curved, your final letter may differ from the raw cutoffs, but your weighted percent is still a useful benchmark.
Do my weights need to add up to 100?
No. The calculator divides by the total weight you enter, so 10/20/30 produces the same result as 100/200/300. Use whatever numbers match your syllabus.
