How do I figure out the score I need on my final?
Enter your current grade percentage, the overall grade you want to finish with, and how much the final is worth. The calculator applies the formula (desired x 100 - current x (100 - weight)) / weight and returns the minimum percentage you need on the final, rounded to one decimal place.
What does the final's weight mean?
The weight is the share of your overall course grade that the final exam counts for. If the final is worth 30%, your work so far accounts for the remaining 70%. A higher-weighted final has a bigger pull on your grade, so the required score shifts more with your current standing.
What if the required score is over 100%?
Your target grade is no longer mathematically reachable from your current standing. You can lower your target, ask your instructor about extra-credit options, or verify that your current grade already reflects all graded work.
How does this map to letter grades on the US 4.0 scale?
Common cutoffs: A is 93%+ (4.0 GPA), B is 83%+ (3.0), C is 73%+ (2.0), D is 63%+ (1.0). Enter the percentage that matches the letter grade you want as your desired grade, and the calculator shows the final score needed to get there. Cutoffs vary by instructor, so check your syllabus.
