Add every digit of your date of birth, then reduce the total to a single digit. For example, 1980-05-12 sums to 1+9+8+0+0+5+1+2 = 26, then 2+6 = 8, so the life path is 8. The reduction stops early if a step lands on a master number (11, 22, or 33), which is kept as-is rather than collapsed to a single digit.

Pythagorean values from 1 to 9, repeated across three rows: A J S = 1, B K T = 2, C L U = 3, D M V = 4, E N W = 5, F O X = 6, G P Y = 7, H Q Z = 8, I R = 9. That is the most common system in modern Western numerology guides. The older Chaldean system uses different values and is not implemented here.

Y is treated as a vowel only when it sits between two consonants, which is the conservative standard reading. In a name like Lynn, both Ns flank the Y, so the Y counts toward the soul urge. In Yvonne the leading Y has no preceding letter and the following V is a consonant, so it counts as a consonant. Word boundaries always pull Y toward the consonant side, since it has no neighbour on one side.

Modern Pythagorean numerology treats 11, 22, and 33 as master numbers with their own meanings (Inspired Healer, Master Builder, Master Teacher), so the reduction stops if any step lands on one of them. Other repdigits like 44 or 55 are not part of the standard system and reduce normally (44 becomes 4+4 = 8).

Most numerology guides ask for the full name on the birth certificate for the expression, soul urge, and personality numbers, since that name is considered the energetic blueprint. If you have legally changed your name and want to compare, run the calculator twice and keep both charts. The life path and birth day come from the date of birth and do not change.
