Love Calculator
Classic FLAMES compatibility game plus a numerology-based love percentage from two names. Deterministic novelty calculator.
Frequently Asked Questions about the Love Calculator
How does the FLAMES game actually work?
FLAMES is a schoolyard cancellation game. You write both names in lowercase, then strike out every common letter one-for-one (counting frequency, so two A's on one side cancel two A's on the other, not three). Sum the leftover letter counts from both names to get a step number, then walk the word FLAMES in a circle, eliminating the letter you land on after each count of that step. Repeat until one letter remains. That letter is your result: F=Friends, L=Love, A=Affection, M=Marriage, E=Enemies, S=Siblings.
Why does the same pair of names always give the same answer?
There is no random seed anywhere in this calculator. Both algorithms are pure functions of the two normalized names. FLAMES counts leftover letters and walks a fixed cycle; the percentage sums the Pythagorean letter values and reduces the digit string. Refreshing the page, opening it on a different device, or running it ten years from now will return the same FLAMES letter and the same percentage for the same two names. The point is to be a fun lookup table, not a Magic 8-Ball.
Is the result actually predictive of a real relationship?
No. This is a novelty calculator. Both algorithms are arithmetic over the letters of two names, with no input from personality, values, communication style, or anything that actually predicts how two people get along. Treat the result as a conversation starter or a piece of schoolyard nostalgia, not as advice. The disclaimer on the result panel says the same thing in fewer words.
What is the difference between Affection and Love in FLAMES?
In the classic playground reading, Love is the romantic high-voltage outcome (attraction, butterflies, the spark of falling for someone), and Affection is the warmer, gentler step below that (a soft fondness, a crush that has not quite tipped into romance, or a deep platonic warmth). Different schoolyards used slightly different glossaries over the years, but every version put Love and Affection close to each other on the positive end of the FLAMES scale.
How is the compatibility percentage calculated?
Each letter maps to a repeating 1 through 9 numerology value. The calculator concatenates the values for both names, repeatedly sums adjacent pairs, parses the final one- or two-digit number, and clamps it to 1 through 100. The percentage is a game result, not a measure of relationship compatibility.
