It takes 24 to 50 hours to charge from 20 to 80 percent on a typical sedan, so it only works for short daily commutes or as a backup. Level 2 runs on a 240V circuit (the same kind your dryer uses) and pushes 6 to 11 kW, adding 20 to 35 miles per hour. A full home L2 session typically runs 4 to 8 hours, which is why most owners install one in the garage. DC fast charging bypasses the on-board charger entirely and feeds DC directly to the pack at 50 to 350 kW, finishing a 20 to 80 percent session in 18 to 45 minutes.
