Frequently Asked Questions about the Business Days Calculator

What counts as a business day?
Any weekday from Monday through Friday. Saturday and Sunday are excluded. If you enable holidays, observed US federal holidays falling on a weekday are also excluded from the business-day count.
Which US federal holidays are recognized?
All 11: New Year's Day, MLK Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. Fixed-date holidays use observed dates.
How are observed holiday dates handled?
Fixed-date holidays that fall on a Saturday are observed on the prior Friday. Those falling on a Sunday are observed on the following Monday. This matches federal payroll convention for non-weekday holidays.
Are state holidays or company holidays included?
No. Only the 11 federal holidays are built in. If your office observes Good Friday, Black Friday, or state-specific days, count them manually or subtract them from the result.
Does the end date count as a business day?
No. The calculator uses an exclusive end date, so Monday to Friday of the same week counts as 4 business days, not 5. This matches how project deadlines and contract terms are usually counted.
