How accurate is the Navy body fat method?
Within plus-minus 3% for most adults compared to DEXA scans. Less accurate at the extremes.
Why does it ask for hip measurement for women?
Women carry fat differently. The female Navy formula adds hip circumference to account for typical patterns around the hips and thighs.
How do I measure my neck correctly?
Just below the Adam's apple (or equivalent area on women). Keep the tape level all around. Do not pull tight.
How do I measure my waist?
At the natural waist (smallest part for women, at the navel for men). Stand relaxed, exhale normally, do not suck in.
What body fat percentage is healthy?
Men: 6-24%. Women: 14-31%. Below these ranges suggests insufficient fat; above suggests obesity-related health risk.
