There are exactly 1,000 milliliters in 1 liter. The liter is defined as one cubic decimeter, and 1 cubic meter holds exactly 1,000 liters or 1,000,000 ml. The calculator uses ml as its base unit and converts every other unit through that anchor.

1 US gallon equals exactly 3.785411784 liters, the legal US definition (231 cubic inches). A UK imperial gallon is exactly 4.54609 liters, about 20 percent larger. This calculator works with US customary units only, so all gallon results reflect the US gallon.

The UK imperial gallon and fl oz are different sizes (a US fl oz is about 29.57 ml while a UK fl oz is about 28.41 ml). Divide the number of liters by 3.785 to get US gallons. For example, 10 liters / 3.785 = 2.64 US gallons. If you need imperial gallons instead, divide by 4.546, which gives 2.20 imperial gallons for the same 10 liters.
