Frequently Asked Questions about the CTR Calculator
What is click-through rate (CTR)?
CTR is the share of people who clicked an ad or link after seeing it. The formula is CTR% = clicks / impressions x 100. If 50 people clicked an ad shown 10,000 times, CTR is 0.5%.
What is a good CTR?
Google Search ads average about 3.17%, Facebook Ads around 0.9%, LinkedIn around 0.4%, and display ads around 0.46%. Anything under 0.5% is below average, 0.5-2% is average, 2-5% is good, and above 5% is excellent.
How do I calculate clicks or impressions from a target CTR?
Rearrange the formula. Clicks = impressions x (CTR / 100), so 5% CTR on 1,000 impressions yields 50 clicks. Impressions = clicks / (CTR / 100), so 100 clicks at 2% CTR requires 5,000 impressions.
How does CTR relate to cost per click (CPC)?
CPC is total spend divided by clicks. Higher CTR usually lowers CPC on platforms like Google and Meta because the ad auction rewards relevant ads with cheaper placements.
Why is my CTR so low?
Common causes are a mismatch between the keyword or audience and the ad copy, a weak headline, broad targeting that reaches uninterested users, and creative fatigue. Test new headlines, tighten targeting, and refresh visuals.
