Army Waist-to-Height Ratio Calculator
Calculate the current US Army waist-to-height ratio from waist at the navel and height. Effective July 7, 2026, the score is truncated to three decimals and must be below 0.550.
Frequently Asked Questions about the Army Waist-to-Height Ratio Calculator
What is the current Army body-composition standard?
Effective July 7, 2026, Army Directive 2026-13 made waist-to-height ratio the Army's sole body-composition assessment. Divide waist circumference at the navel by height using the same unit. A recorded value below 0.550 meets the standard; 0.550 or higher does not.
How does the Army record the waist-to-height ratio?
The ratio is truncated to three decimal places, not rounded. Extra digits after the third decimal are discarded. For example, 0.5499 is recorded as 0.549 and meets the below-0.550 standard, while 0.550 is not passing.
Where is the waist measured?
The current Army procedure measures the waist at the navel and divides it by standing height. Use the same unit for both measurements. Official assessments must follow current Army measurement, confirmation, documentation, and quality-control procedures.
Does this calculator still use the old tape-test equations?
No. The current implementation uses only waist and height. The former neck, waist, hip, age, and sex body-fat equations and their age-specific caps were rescinded for current Army compliance on July 7, 2026.
Can this result replace an official Army assessment?
No. It reproduces the ratio and truncation rule, but an official result depends on authorized measurement and documentation. A first nonpassing result also requires confirmation under current Army guidance.
