Frequently Asked Questions about the Shoe Size Calculator

How do I measure my foot length correctly?
Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall, in the socks you usually wear with the shoes you are sizing. Mark the tip of your longest toe (it is not always the big toe) and measure the distance from the wall to that mark. Do this in the evening, when feet are widest and longest, and measure both feet. Use the longer of the two and round up if you land between sizes, since shoes are easier to fit with a thicker insole than to stretch.
Why is US Women's 1.5 sizes higher than US Men's at the same foot length?
Brannock-style charts use the same length scale, but the size numbers are offset by 1.5. A 25.4 cm foot is US Men's 8 and US Women's 9.5, the same shoe with a different label. Unisex models like Vans, Converse, and many running shoes are usually printed in US Men's, so a woman who wears US 9.5 buys a US 8 in those styles. The calculator shows both numbers at once so you can shop either rack.
How does UK sizing compare to US?
UK sizing runs about 0.5 sizes lower than US Men's. A US Men's 9 is roughly a UK 8.5. The UK scale and the US Men's scale share the same length increments (each size is 1/3 inch), so the offset stays steady across the chart. UK shoes from Clarks, Dr. Martens, and Loake are labelled in UK sizes, so a US 9 buyer should reach for the UK 8.5 box.
What is the EU size relative to US?
EU sizing measures the last (the foot-shaped form the shoe is built on) in Paris points: 1 point equals 2/3 cm. EU sizes work out to roughly US Men's + 32.5, with small variations as foot length increases. A US Men's 9 is EU 42 or 42.5, a US Men's 11 is EU 44.5, and a US Men's 13 is about EU 47. The calculator interpolates between cross-checked anchors so the EU number lines up with what Adidas, Nike Europe, and other EU brands actually print.
Why does the same labelled size fit differently between Nike, Adidas, and Vans?
Each brand builds shoes on its own last, which sets the heel-to-toe length, the toe-box width, and the instep height. Nike running tends to run about half a size small, so many runners go up. Adidas is closer to true to size, though Stan Smiths and Sambas are famous for fitting roomier than the label suggests. Vans classic styles fit large and narrow. Treat the calculator's result as a starting point, then check the brand's own size chart and recent customer reviews before ordering.
