Frequently Asked Questions about the Pay Periods Remaining This Year Calculator
How does this calculator count remaining paydays?
You pick a pay frequency (weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, or monthly), enter one known payday, and set the date to count from (today by default). For weekly and biweekly schedules, the calculator steps forward by 7 or 14 days from your payday to map every pay date in the year. For semimonthly and monthly schedules, it uses the day of the month from your reference payday. It then counts the paydays that fall after your count-from date within the same calendar year.
Why do some biweekly years have 27 paychecks instead of 26?
Biweekly pay arrives every 14 days, so a year usually holds 26 paychecks (26 times 14 is 364 days). Because a calendar year has 365 or 366 days, the extra day or two slowly shifts the schedule, and roughly every 11 years a 27th payday lands inside January 1 to December 31. Whether your specific year has 26 or 27 depends on which weekday your paydays fall on, which is exactly why this tool counts the real dated series instead of assuming 26.
Does a payday on the count-from date count as remaining?
No. The calculator counts paydays strictly after your count-from date, so a payday that lands exactly on that date is treated as already received and is not included in the remaining total. If you want to include today's paycheck, set the count-from date to the day before.
How are semimonthly pay dates chosen?
Semimonthly means two paydays a month, for 24 a year. The calculator pairs the day of the month from your reference payday with its partner 15 days away. If your day is the 15th or earlier, the two pay days are that day and that day plus 15. If it is later, they are that day and that day minus 15. Any day that overflows a short month, such as a 31st in February, is moved to the last day of that month.
What if my employer shifts paydays for weekends or holidays?
This calculator assumes a steady schedule and does not adjust for weekends or bank holidays, since those rules vary by employer. If your company moves a payday that falls on a weekend to the prior Friday, your actual date may differ by a day or two, but the number of paydays in the year stays the same.
Is this a substitute for payroll or financial advice?
No. This tool gives an estimate of your pay schedule for budgeting and planning only, and it is not financial, tax, or payroll advice. Always confirm exact pay dates and amounts with your employer or payroll provider before making financial decisions.
