Macro tubing typically runs at 10, 15, or 20 gtt/mL and is used for routine fluids. Micro tubing runs at 60 gtt/mL and is used for pediatric or small-volume infusions where precise control matters. Always read the value from the tubing package before you set the rate.
How is mL/hr different from gtt/min?
mL/hr is the volume per hour an infusion pump delivers. gtt/min is the drops per minute you count on a gravity drip chamber. Convert between them with the drop factor: gtt/min equals mL/hr times drop factor divided by 60.
