How does this height calculator work?
It uses the Mid-Parental Height (MPH) formula. The calculator averages both parents' heights, then adds 13 cm (about 5 in) for a boy or subtracts 13 cm for a girl. That midpoint is the predicted adult height, and the result is shown in both feet/inches and centimeters.
How accurate is the prediction?
The MPH formula is a population-level estimate, not a guarantee. Actual adult height typically falls within +/- 10 cm (roughly +/- 4 in) of the predicted value. Nutrition, sleep, chronic illness, and genetic factors beyond the parents can all shift the final outcome in either direction.
Why are boys and girls calculated differently?
On average, adult men are about 13 cm (5 in) taller than adult women. The formula applies a +13 cm adjustment for boys and a -13 cm adjustment for girls to account for that population-level sex difference in height.
Can I use this for adults or teenagers?
No. The MPH formula estimates how tall a child will be once growth is complete. If the person has already finished growing, their current measured height is the answer and no formula is needed.
Should I see a pediatrician about my child's growth?
Yes, if you have any concerns. This calculator gives a rough genetic estimate and is not a substitute for medical evaluation. A pediatrician can track your child's growth on standardized charts over time and identify any issues that warrant follow-up.
