Frequently Asked Questions about the Height Calculator

How does this height calculator work?
It uses the Mid-Parental Height (MPH) formula: it averages the father's and mother's height, then adds 13 cm (about 5 in) for boys or subtracts 13 cm for girls to estimate adult height.
How accurate is the prediction?
It is only an estimate. Actual adult height usually falls within plus or minus 10 cm (4 in) of the prediction. Nutrition, health, sleep, hormones, and genetics outside the parents all affect the final outcome.
Why are boys and girls calculated differently?
On average, adult men are about 13 cm taller than adult women, so the formula adjusts up for boys and down for girls to reflect that population difference.
Can I use this for adults or teenagers?
No. The MPH formula predicts the adult height of a child. If your child has stopped growing, simply measure their current height.
Should I see a pediatrician about my child's growth?
Yes, if you are worried. This calculator is informational only and does not replace medical advice. A pediatrician can plot growth on standardized charts and check for any concerns.
