BMR Calculator
Calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate (Mifflin-St Jeor formula) to know how many calories your body burns at rest.
Your details
Basal Metabolic Rate
1649 calories/day
This is the energy your body burns at rest to keep basic functions running. Add activity to estimate total daily expenditure (TDEE).
Frequently Asked Questions about the BMR Calculator
What is BMR?
Basal Metabolic Rate is the energy your body burns at complete rest just to keep basic processes (breathing, heartbeat, cell maintenance) running. It is the floor of your daily calorie needs.
What formula is most accurate?
Mifflin-St Jeor is the most accurate for the general adult population and is what this calculator uses by default. Katch-McArdle is better if you know your body fat percentage. Harris-Benedict is older and slightly less accurate.
Why do men and women have different formulas?
Average body composition differs. Men typically have more lean mass than women of the same height and weight, and lean mass burns more calories at rest than fat tissue.
How is BMR different from TDEE?
BMR is what you burn at rest. TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) adds movement, exercise, and digestion (typically BMR x 1.2 to 1.9 depending on activity). Use the Calorie Calculator to compute TDEE.
Does BMR decrease with age?
Yes. Adults lose roughly 1-2% BMR per decade after 30, mostly due to muscle loss. Strength training helps slow this decline.
